100 Marbles #1

Welcome to Sandi Land!

The best quote of the week comes from my best pal Al…he said (in a conversation about our new InSights Clubhouse among other things), “You and I are really good at being ahead of our time.”

We are. We are really good at being ahead of our time…take for instance InSights I. Starting mid 2007, we built a co-working facility that was among the first 10-15 that existed ever. Before anyone knew what to call them, we had built it. Then we read about it in books, and it became an entry on Wikipedia. Now there are 1500 in the US, and approx. 2500 worldwide.

We are also leading the pool industry with a customer centric brand and website with Ask the Pool Guy. We have more video footage than any other pool company we know, more twitter followers, and more of a web presence than any…yet if you took a poll by a show of hands how many pool companies have websites, you’d get 1 in 10 if you were lucky. That’s okay. That’s one business we are taking to the bank, and letting others catch us if they can.

So raise your hands in InSights applause (the shape of a teepee) and clap really enthusiastically and quietly, or make the universal sign for melancholy (forehead finger waggle).

We’re here. First time and every time we’ll be on time or ahead of our time. Take your pick.

Jump on the InSights trolley. We have arrived in the station.

(btw…looking for a Mr. Rogers Trolley to go with my stoplight…)

The Men Who Built America

The Men Who Built America

We know the names, Vanderbilt, Carnegie, Rockefeller, Ford, Morgan. Do we really know what they did, and that they worked together and against each other?

“John D. Rockefeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt, Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford and J.P. Morgan rose from obscurity and in the process built modern America. Their names hang on street signs, are etched into buildings and are a part of the fabric of history. These men created the American Dream and were the engine of capitalism as they transformed everything they touched in building the oil, rail, steel, shipping, automobile and finance industries. Their paths crossed repeatedly as they elected presidents, set economic policies and influenced major events of the 50 most formative years this country has ever known. From the Civil War to the Great Depression and World War I, they led the way.”

We will be sure to have some discussions about this History Channel Series in our US Constitution Study Club and upcoming masterminds. Add it to your must watch list!  The Men Who Built America

The #1 book recommendation that I have for people, if you are going to only have the chance to read one book (ever) would be to read Atlas Shrugged. I’ve even encouraged my high school age kids and kids friends to read it.

People hear the title or author mentioned, and often have heard of the book, but don’t know much about it. Or they have formed a conclusion based on hearing about it in the news.

I can tell you this, everyone I have ever talked to that has read the book recommends that others do as well.

It is that good.

It’s intellectually thick (not just pages, which even with really small font in the paperback version comes out to well over 1000 pages), it’s conceptually thick. It will make you ponder, think, and come to some interesting life perspectives. If you haven’t yet, I’d say it’s time to read the book.

Super Amazing Video of the Week

Here are the two next most important videos to watch featuring Seth Godin…

Stop Stealing Dreams, a free ebook manifesto I gave away early this year, has been downloaded millions of times, translated into a few languages and turned into an audiobook. But I’m hoping for an even wider audience, so when Lisa Daniels gave Seth the chance to do a TEDx talk about it, he took it. Doing a talk for the first and only time is a risky thing, and a lot of work, but I hope you’ll find it worth 17 minutes of your time–and share it if you can.

Stop Stealing Dreams – the Tedx Talk by Seth Godin (17 minutes) of awesomeness.

Next, watch the Good Life video interview featuring Seth Godin. So much good information on this project page.

Personal Best-Entrepreneurs in America

This is a 12 part Video Series documenting the triumphs and challenges that Entrepreneurs face in America today.  Our goal is to bring awareness to both the the struggles and acheivements of the entrepreneur community in this country and hope to educate on why it is essential to support entrepreneurship. This is a great time to feature entrepreneurs in America.  I have been fortunate to meet entrepreneurs from all over the country thru my radio program, and I want to bring their story to a video series in order to garner  better understanding and support for the entrepreneur community. The one thing that always happens during my radio interviews is that my guests always have something special to share   I always get emails and notes from my listeners saying “I never knew that-I’m so glad your guest was so candid”.  It costs thousands of dollars to get training with many of the guests I profile-I am excited to bring this knowledge to future and current entrepreneurs. This video series is the one place that they can go to get the knowledge and inspiration they need.  Using the film, we go on site, across the country, to visit  “entrepreneurs in action” to deliver their story. Our journey will feature real people making real decisions.  Sometimes things can be really funny and sometimes they are really serious-we plan to catch it all on film.Timing is everything…….and now is the time to spotlight entrepreneurs in this country.

Support our friend Kristin in showcasing Entrepreneurs in America. We did!
